Felly L. Kataley, Founder ASG
Dear Colleagues,
In 2002 we decided to found the African Salvation Group Corp, a nonprofit organization whose mission consisted in promoting access to healthcare, raising awareness of the communicable diseases, and providing human services to brothers and sisters living in abject poverty in the Sub-Saharan Africa region. After a survey among the African immigrant community in New York City revealed that most brothers and sisters living in the city faced some of the same problems those in the motherland were facing and theirs even included isolation, which brought much of depression among them, we then decided to implement a provision of human services in New York City.
A year later, our outreach activities have reached thousands lives with life-saving messages that alter the spread of HIV/AIDS in the community. We have raised their awareness of symptoms of diseases and factors that can increase their vulnerability to getting infected; organized communities; provided food, school tuition fees and supplies to impoverished children; and worked as a liaison between our constituents and the public agencies that provide income support services in helping them access or obtain public assistance benefits including TANF, SSI, Food Stamps, etc.
We certainly still have a long road ahead and we will need a collective effort of all members of the communities we serve and those who believe in supporting the rights of every human being on earth to life and prosperity to expand our services to the underserved persons.
